After a beautiful and selfless life, Deacon William A. Dotterer, 83, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Syracuse NY, Bill was the fourth child of George and Genevieve (Dortzbach) Dotterer.
Bill was a graduate of the Christian Brothers Academy Class of 1959. He was an avid athlete, running track and playing baseball and football throughout his high school years. He was selected as an all-county quarterback. He graduated from Syracuse University Class of 1963 with a degree in Business Administration.
He married Catherine Regina Curtin on June 6, 1964 and they raised their four children in Liverpool, NY. They enjoyed 54 wonderful years together prior to her passing. Bill had a storied history of working in human resources, including Vice President for the R.E. Dietz Company, the NYS Chapter of the American Heart Association and retired from ARC of Onondaga.
Bill was adored by his wife, children and grandchildren and all who had the privilege of meeting him. He was there for every game or activity for his children and grandchildren. He delighted in celebrating all these little special moments by extending the time together with his added touch of going out for a treat afterwards. He loved sports and was a fervent Cardinals and Cowboys fan. An avid reader, he was forever learning, particularly enjoying history and the natural world. His eloquence with words extended to a love of crosswords and daily word puzzles.
Bill was a Deacon in the Syracuse Catholic Diocese for 45 years. His commitment to His Lord and service to others was demonstrated daily through his strong devotion to his St. Elizabeth Ann Seton family. His dedication to the church and parish family was evident in everything he did. He consistently put the needs of others before his own, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer comfort in his words. He was a selfless and loving servant of the Lord, whose commitment to his faith was unwavering. He touched countless lives with his inspirational sermons, his acts of service and his compassionate heart.
Bill is predeceased by his wife, Catherine R. Dotterer; brothers, George and Edward Dotterer and sister, Therese Evans.
Bill is survived by daughters; Mary Kay (Don) Spaulding, Christine A. Rossignol and Debra L. (Carl) Foriero, his son, William G. (Christie) Dotterer; a brother, Daniel (Mary) Dotterer and twelve grandchildren; Ian, Marissa, Colin, Megan, Bryanna, Caitlyn, Emily, Jesse, Sean, Hadley, Evan and Andie as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3494 State Route 31, Baldwinsville, NY 13027 with a Deacon’s Vigil Service to follow at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 26, 2024 at 10:30 am in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3494 State Route 31 Baldwinsville, NY 13027. The Rite of Committal and Burial will be private in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY.
