The students who receive First Holy Communion this weekend will return to present flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary during Masses next weekend. This longstanding Catholic tradition honors Mary with a floral crown and/or other flowers. Throughout history, Catholics have long honored the Blessed Virgin Mary during May. To symbolize her significance in the Church and in our lives, the “May Crowning” is set up to display her queenship as the mother of Jesus. Catholic churches typically create a dedicated area to place a picture or statue of Mary, which is surrounded by flowers. This tribute marks the importance of our Mother Mary in the Church and our personal lives. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, herself, learned about this and was so happy to find a mother who cared for her every need. You are invited to welcome Mary into your own homes and hearts during May in a special way.
